Last Thursday 28th September, Police Legatee Jenny Ryan, accompanied by her brother Neil and friend Edith, attended a National Police Service Medal (NPSM) presentation at the Victoria Police Centre to receive a NPSM medal posthumously on behalf of her late husband Chief Superintendent Peter Ryan APM OAM 12655.
The National Police Service Medal is a special service award within the Australian honours system to provide "recognition for the unique contribution and significant commitment of those persons who have given ethical and diligent service as a sworn member of an Australian police service"
Peter, along with the late former Inspector Bryan Kelly QPM, was integral in VPL being established back in 1980, and providing the ‘on ground day to day support’ to many police families in the early years of Victoria Police Legacy. Peter was also a founding member of The Police Credit Co-Op, now known as BankVic. Peter, along with Bryan Kelly, was awarded the first Life Membership of Victoria Police Legacy for his services to the Police Legacy Family.
Peter was known to be a quiet achiever, a keen sportsman and a very special person who worked hard for the good of others. Jenny was honoured to meet VPL Patron, and Chief Commissioner Shane Patton APM and to accept the medal on behalf of Peter.
