We recognise the immense value our volunteers bring and how their efforts contribute to our mission of providing enduring care and support to our police legatees.
Our volunteers help in a variety of ways ranging from driving buses on our trips away, to helping with graphic design, distributing CARE magazines, to making regular telephone contact with our most vulnerable police legatees. No matter how small the task, our volunteers help connect our police legacy community and make a real difference to the lives of those we care for.
One of the strengths of Victoria Police Legacy is the regular field visits and catch ups by staff and our growing group of Volunteers. Victoria Police Legacy Volunteer, retired Senior Sergeant John Brookes OAM, enjoys regular coffee catch ups with police legatees who live in and around his area. A distinguished career with Victoria Police, an Order of Australia Medal recipient as well as cycling superstar, Brookes’y (as John is commonly known) frequently makes a round trip journey from Warragul to Paynesville and beyond for regular get-togethers with local police legatees.
