Young Adult Police Legatees connect in Cairns

19 Young Adult Police Legatees (VPAL's) enjoyed some time away from chilly Melbourne to reconnect and create new friendships with others who have suffered similar loss, on the 2023 Annual VPAL trip to Cairns, thanks to Take Shape Adventures.

A wonderful time was had exploring new places. In just 4 days, our VPAL's experienced Fitzroy Island with a strenuous hike to the summit, followed by snorkelling off the beach, the Cairns night market and beautiful esplanade, stand up paddle boarding and strolling the foreshore of Palm Cove, crocodile spotting on a Daintree River cruise, a visit to Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge and Rainforest, Karunda Markets and Barron Falls. The group even had a special visit from Acting Superintendent Kevin Goan from Cairns Police who spoke to the group about his experiences of Policing in Far North QLD.

This trip included one very special moment for Police Legatee, Ella Carr, who had a surprise visit from her partner Braydan, who travelled up from Melbourne on the last night to propose to her on the beautiful Cairns esplanade. Of course, she said 'yes', and was over the moon with happiness. A huge 'CONGRATULATIONS' to Ella and Braydan on their engagement.

What an incredible experience for our VPAL's. Thanks to the VPL staff and volunteers who, along with the participants, ensured this personal development experience was a great success.
